What most people do not realize is that there are so many adventures on the African continent, some of which you have probably heard and others that only serious adventurers are aware of.
In this article, to prove why Africa is not all safaris, we take a look at one of the greatest adventures in all of Africa – climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.
Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania is considered one of the 7 natural wonders of Africa, which is located at an amazing height of 5,895 meters (19,340 feet), making it the largest standing mountain in the world.
There are 7 different peaks at the top of the mountain, the largest of which is called Uhuru. These areas are covered with snow all year round, which makes the mountain a beautiful place to visit and take stunning photos.
For the adventurous type, climbing is necessary, but only 40% of mountain climbers successfully reach the summit on their journey. This is not much climbing, it is more of a hike than the last part of the mountain that makes the peak inaccessible to more than half of the visitors.
There are 6 main routes to climb Mount Kilimanjaro called Machame, Marangu, Lemosho, Rongai, Shira and Umbwe.
Machame walking is said to be the most challenging of these, although the view below is also the best.
One of the best reasons to go to Africa and climb the Kilimanjaro Mountains is the fact that you can combine the climb with an African safari if you wish.
Elevation, training, preparation and adaptation are highly recommended when climbing the peak, so many tour operators now include safari tours while climbers adapt to the atmosphere.
Due to the fact that Mount Kilimanjaro is located in Tanzania, there are a number of additional options for visitors that can be combined with safari or other African tours.
Ngorongoro Crater is one of the safaris that is located nearby and is generally the safari option that most tour operators use to combine with Mount Kilimanjaro. In this crater, you will see a lot of wildlife.
