Former Irish football legend Damien Duff has been named the new manager of Shelbourne Airtight City.

This will be the first senior manager role for the former Fulham and Chelsea winger. Duff previously worked as an assistant for Celtic Scotland and the national team of the Republic of Ireland.

Shelbourne guaranteed an immediate return to the Irish Premier League in the first division this year. This was after relegation from the SSE Airtricity League in 2020.

They topped the table after 27 games with 57 points. Galloway United, UCD, Triti United and Barry Wonders will now advance to the play-offs for the remaining place.

“Talking about this appointment, Damien Duff said:

I’m happy to be in charge of Shelbourne.

“With the coaching and management of our Under-17 national team and being around the club, I can see the plans and ambitions here and I’m excited to start a new season in Shelbourne’s 126-year history.

I am very interested in the growth of the youth in Ireland and Irish football in general, and I see this as a great opportunity to help build something that both the club, the fans and I can be proud of.

Given that the club is currently in the SSE Airtricity Premier League and its foundations are laid by its board and directors, I can not wait to get started.

Most recently, he led the Shelbourne Under-17 team this year. That was after he spent nine months on Steven Kenny’s backup team with Boys in Green.
