Movie Review: High Lane

There are many horror movies that somehow involve mountaineering. Most of them are not only bad, but really bad. In fact, it is somewhat unusual to encounter an … average.

The reality of most films in all genres is that they are mediocre. You are often not completely bored. You get involved with the characters and when the movie is over, you quickly forget about it. Surprisingly, really bad movies tend to stay with you a little longer.

High Lane(2009) is one of those mediocre films that will probably leave my mind shortly after I write this blog. But that does not mean I was not engaged to it. For a “scary-thriller” movie set in the mountains, it was much better than many of its competitors, but that doesn’t really say much.

The five friends decide to travel to Croatia, where they cross the Euphrates to the mountains. For those who are sedentary, via ferrata is a type of mountaineering in which a harness is fastened with crab claws. Via ferrata trails follow cables and ladders – many of which were laid during World War II – through the mountains. If you fall, the crab claws will catch on to your restraint.

In any case, friends are made up of two women and three men. One of the women, Chloe (Fanny Walt, Previously with a man named Loïc (Johann LibroAnd now with another man named Guillaume, (Rafael Langlett). This creates a bit of tension throughout the story and is, in fact, one of the side stories that puts the film above many of its competitors.

Group by individual (Nicholas Giro, A skilled climber who is confident he can take the group to the mountains on a rugged, crumbling ferret. It goes without saying that he is not doing his job well and the team is trapped in the mountains. And of course, the fact that they are trapped is compounded by the fact that there is a delusional psychopath in the mountains that traps them everywhere and may be cannibals … or something. All of this leads to what most horror movies lead to, a combination of blood and gut and the tension of the edge of your chair.

There is a scene that is especially interesting for climbers. via ferrata completely collapses and climbers are trapped in a forest on a cliff with two injured. They have a rope, but they have almost nothing else: no tools, no extra clothes, nothing.

One of the great values of such a film is that we tend to put ourselves in the place of the characters … and I have to admit that this was a time when I was not sure what I was going to do. The situation was extremely difficult. Especially with the lack of equipment to manipulate anything. There are scenes like this that are worth watching this kind of movie. What will you do …?

High Lane It is a French film that has been dubbed. This is a little worrying at first. I generally prefer movies that have subtitles. But the double dubbing is worrisome because there are parts in English where the characters’ lips line up, but then they start speaking French again. This is annoying. However, the plot is interesting enough that it lets you forget about dubbing.

The second biggest problem of this film is the way the director (Abel Free) Were selected for cutting films designed to increase stress.

This is an example: a character is running. The other character is loading a steel bow. A character is running. Another character is still loading a steel bow. The first character is still playing and the music is loud, so he must be in danger, but the other character is still loading the steel bow.

Most directors make three cuts where Free chooses six or seven pieces. The intention to create tension continues so much that there is no more tension …

Earlier in the study, I noticed that there was tension between two male characters over a female character. Although the characters’ actions are sometimes silly (such as fighting each other while being hunted down by a lunatic), this subplot provides a little bit of depth for otherwise smooth characters. It also offers some story twists that allow for a more interesting story.

Via ferreta sequences are mostly true the way they actually are … minus cables that break accidentally. This is one thing in this kind of film and I am willing to suspend my disbelief. In fact, if nothing else, the film psychologizes viewers through the paths of Fratta

High Lane is a fascinating ride that explores places that other exciting and scary mountain movies are not like. But that does not mean that it is a good movie … but if you do not have another job, it may be worth an hour and a half …
